Thermography
Thermography, or the measuring of body temperature, was first documented around 400BC by the Greek doctor, Hippocrates. He wrote "In whatever part of the body excess of heat or cold is felt, the disease is there to be discovered". From this concept has evolved the 21 st century science of being able to measure subtle temperature differences in the breast using photo images of the heat emitted from breast tissue with a special infrared camera. These temperature differences can give us a very early clue to the existence of breast disease. . Thermography is a valuable procedure for alerting your doctor to changes that can indicate early stage breast disease. In our experience, when changes are detected early, prior to actual tissue disease, the abnormal process can be reversed with holistic treatments and no subsequent disease develops. This is the best use of preventative medicine. The benefit of Thermography over other methods is that it offers the opportunity of earlier detection of breast disease than has been possible through self or doctor manual breast examination or mammography without the radiation of a mammogram. Mammography only detects changes in breast tissue when there is actual structural change due to calcium deposits. With thermography, we can detect the biochemical changes that occur prior to actual structural disease and do an early intervention.
Thermography detects the subtle physiologic changes that accompany breast pathology, whether it is pre-cancer, cancer, fibrocystic disease, infection or vascular disease. When your Thermography results have been reviewed, your doctor can then plan accordingly and lay out a careful program to further diagnose and/or monitor you during and after treatment.
Thermography is;
Non invasive
No radiation
Painless
No contact with the body
F.D.A approved
Takes only about 15 minutes
Thermography is a quick and easy test which starts with your medical history being taken before the scanning is performed. The first session provides the baseline of your ‘thermal signature'. After the first Thermograph, a subsequent session, 3 months later, is needed to ensure that the patterns in the first remain unchanged. This 2 step process sets your baseline and a single Thermograph is then usually done on an annual basis. If your patterns change between the first and follow-up Thermograph, your practitioner can again help you with information and treatment.

All of your thermograms (breast images) are kept on record and once your stable thermal pattern has been established, any changes can be detected during your routine annual studies.
At LifeWorks, we offer non-compression, radiation-free Thermography. This state of the art early detection system is non invasive and done in a private, calm environment by a certified thermographer.
Thermography can also be applied to other specific areas to check for blockages in blood flow, such as the carotid arteries going up the neck to the brain. Blockages in these arteries can lead to premature strokes.
