Do You Really Need Testosterone Replacement?

We know that not everyone who suffers from these symptoms needs TRT. This is because there are many things that contribute to balanced hormones in the body.

For example, did you know that consuming processed foods and foods that have estrogen-mimicking effects, contribute to low testosterone levels? Even being overweight can unbalance your hormones.

This is why we look for any underlying causes that may be affecting hormone production before prescribing hormone replacement therapy.

Sometimes we are able to identify dietary, nutritional, or lifestyle changes that can be made to boost testosterone levels naturally and rebalance your hormones without TRT supplementation.

If You Do Need Testosterone Replacement Therapy…

Our TRT doctors prefer to use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for men. This is because it is natural, effective, and can be specifically dosed to the individual.

There are many benefits of using bioidentical testosterone replacement such as:

  1. They are more readily used by the body because they are naturally derived from plant estrogens.
  2. They may pose less of a chance of long-term health risks.
  3. They have a better chance of helping the body balance its own hormone production.
  4. There are fewer side effects, due to the lack of chemicals, additives, and synthetics.
  5. Bioidentical hormones regulate hormones better.

Testosterone Replacement Treatment

There are several different delivery systems that can be utilized to deliver natural testosterone boosting therapy to your body, such as gels, creams, capsules, tablets, or hormone injections. The recommended method will be discussed with you during your visit.

Lab results will determine your starting dosage and any other supplemental hormones you might require.

Several weeks later, you’ll receive a follow-up hormone level test to make sure your hormones are in the proper balance. This is also a great time to discuss how you’ve been feeling and to bring up any other health concerns you may have. Since we are a full-service natural health clinic, we can help you resolve any other non-optimum health concerns.

Your TRT treatment plan may consist of:

  • Testosterone (TRT) supplementation
  • Nutritional supplements to reverse any nutritional deficiencies you might have
  • Suggestions for lifestyle changes that will reduce stress and improve the health of the body through exercise and other means
  • Dietary recommendations
  • Recommendations for addressing any other underlying factors

Symptoms of Low Testosterone in Men

When testosterone is low in men, their bodies tend to become estrogen dominant. This leads to a host of symptoms such as:

  • Difficulty building and maintaining muscle
  • Less energy for exercise and physical activity
  • Extended recovery time after exercising
  • Rapid weight gain often due to a slowing metabolism
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Moodiness
  • Brain fog
  • Fatigue
  • Sugar and carbohydrates cravings
  • Urinary problems
  • Low libido (sex drive)
  • Erectile dysfunction

Causes of Low Testosterone in Men

Several body systems and processes affect the production of testosterone. The pituitary gland secretes luteinizing hormone (LH) which influences the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone. The pituitary gland also works hand in hand with the hypothalamus. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) from the thyroid affects the way the body utilizes testosterone through sex hormone-binding globulin levels.1

Testosterone production gradually declines as men age and typically begins about age 40. This decline averages about 1% per year so that by age 70 production is at about 70% of what it was before the decline.2

When not enough testosterone is produced in the male body, it is usually termed hypogonadism. It is important to note that hypogonadism involves consistently low testosterone concentrations.3

Considering the intricacy involved in testosterone production, it is no wonder that there may be several causes for low testosterone in men. These might include:

This is why it is crucial to look at the body as an interdependent set of systems all working synergistically for optimum health. If one system, substance, or hormone is unbalanced it can affect one or several other systems.

Our TRT doctors take a natural, holistic approach to unbalanced hormones. We conduct a thorough exam and consultation, run any necessary urine, saliva, and blood tests, and do any other testing we feel might uncover underlying issues that need to be addressed.

How Conventional Medicine Addresses TRT

Typically conventional medicine does not look at the body as a whole and may simply treat the symptom. While testosterone replacement therapy may be necessary, oftentimes it is not.

In addition, the pills, creams, capsules, tablets, or injections used by conventional doctors may contain chemicals, synthetic hormones, and other additives which can cause side effects and harm the body over time. This is why it’s wise to explore bioidentical hormone replacement.

Benefits of Seeing a Natural Health Doctor

Our natural health doctors know the intricate systems of the body and how they work together to affect hormone production and overall health. We are able to find the underlying causes of low testosterone production, as well as recognize whether TRT is actually necessary.

In addition, we work with bioidentical hormones which are plant-based hormones that are much more effective and potentially safer to use. Using naturally derived hormones reduces the potential side effects and chemical load to the body.

How Much Does TRT for Men Cost

As with any treatment, the costs vary depending on preliminary testing and the individualized program developed for each patient. Each body is unique and while one may need nutritional supplementation and dietary changes, another may need other interventions such as TRT. Therefore, there is really not a one-size-fits-all solution and no cut-and-dried cost we can share with you.

Certainly, we conduct a complete health exam and consultation with every patient. From there we decide what tests to run which may include a 24-hour urine lab test, a saliva hormone test, and/or blood tests. In combination, these will determine the best course of action for your situation.

Should testosterone replacement therapy be necessary, we frequently run hormone replacement specials, which include a complete package of everything you’ll need. We welcome you to contact our TRT clinic to see if there are any specials.

Safety & Testosterone Replacement Therapy

It’s really important to understand that the body is an intricate set of systems all working together for optimum health. If one or more systems are unbalanced, other systems will be affected. Therefore testosterone replacement therapy should be done under the supervision of a competent healthcare professional.

While there are benefits to hormone replacement therapy, there can also be drawbacks, especially if TRT levels are raised and maintained at unsafe levels. Our natural health doctors will make sure you are getting the treatment that is right for you and the correct amount and type of hormones if they are necessary.
