Types of Lung Cancer

Lung cancers are categorized into two main types: (1) Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and (2) Small Cell Lung Cancers (SCLC).

Let’s take a look at these two main types.

Small Cell Lung Cancers (SCLC)

SCLC represents 10%-15% of all lung cancers and is the most aggressive form of lung cancer.  It is also known as “oat-cell” cancer because the cells look like oats under a microscope.

This type of cancer is strongly related to cigarette smoking. SCLCs often quickly metastasize to many different sites of the body and are often discovered after they have spread extensively.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

NSCLC or non-small cell lung cancers are the most common form of lung cancer, accounting for nearly 90% of all lung cancer cases. NSCLC grows at a much slower rate than SCLC and typically causes no or very few symptoms.

There are three main types of NSCLC:

1. Adenocarcinoma of the lung – the most common form of NSCLC, accounting for around 30% of this type of cancer. It usually arises in the outer, or peripheral areas of the lung and tends to spread to other areas of the body.
2. Squamous cell – usually arises in the central chest area, in the bronchi and accounts for around 25% to 30% of all lung cancer cases
3. Large-cell undifferentiated carcinoma – least common, accounting for only 10%-15% of all lung cancers and tends to spread to other sites.

Other Types of Lung Cancer

There are other types of lung cancers but these are less common, and only comprise 5%-10% of all lung cancers.

1. Bronchial carcinoids – represent about 5% of lung cancers, comprising small tumors (usually 3-4 cm or less).
2. Cancers of supporting lung tissues – these cancers are even rarer and affect supporting lung tissues such as blood vessels or smooth muscle.

Lung Cancer Symptoms

• A persistent cough that does not go away or get worse
• Hoarseness or wheezing
• Chest pain that gets worse with deep breaths, laughing, or coughing
• Coughing up blood or phlegm that is rust-colored
• Loss of appetite
• Shortness of breath
• Feeling tired, weak or fatigued
• Unexplained weight loss
• Chronic respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia that won’t seem to go away

These symptoms can also be caused by other health conditions that are not Lung Cancer. However, if you have any of these symptoms you should see a doctor so that the cause can be understood and treated.

Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT)

Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT) is a very low-dose form of chemotherapy

IPT is a real breakthrough in the treatment of many forms of cancer. It is now widely recognized that cancer cells are always hungry for sugar – it feeds them and makes them grow and multiply. So, by giving the patient some insulin, the cancer cells are tricked into believing that sugar is in the body and on its way to them and they open wide to receive it. These sugar-hungry receptive cells are then given a reduced dose of chemo (about 10% of a traditional dose) which directly targets the cancer cells, leaving the healthy cells mostly unharmed.

IPT Has Fewer Side Effects

Because the patient is receiving a smaller dose of chemo, the patient does not usually experience debilitating hair loss, nausea, or the other symptoms which regular chemotherapy patients experience and less damage is being done to healthy parts of the body and there is much much less toxicity introduced into the body.

Ozone Therapy Packs a Punch
