Heart Disease Screening – OHR #534

Heart disease is the number one killer in the world.  In the USA close to 750,000 people die from it.  About half of these people have no history of heart problems and suddenly have a heart attack and die.

Not a good scene. Not something you want to have happen to you.

We have started screening our patients who are 35 years and older to see if they have any evidence of blocked arteries in their heart which can put them at risk for a heart attack.

This screening test is a very low radiation CT scan which shows if there is a calcium buildup in the heart. A calcium buildup means there is inflammation going on in the heart arteries which leads to blockage and heart attacks.

This test is called a CAC or coronary artery calcium score.

We recently had two men, who were pretty fit and had no symptoms “flunk” this test. A safe level for their age was below 50 and one had 1100 and the other 1600. We had them do a stress test and both flunked. They each had significant heart artery blockage. They are now doing a therapy called EECP to open up their heart arteries and grow new blood vessels around the old ones, and EDTA chelation and Plaquex to get their arteries opened up.

Both of these men were at high risk. Now their jeopardy is greatly reduced.

I recommend that you do not wait until you have symptoms.  If you are 35 years or older, come in for an evaluation and we can get you scheduled to get this test.
