Within recent years, detoxification has garnered a lot of attention throughout the medical industry and among patients. However, because this treatment has different variations of how it can be done, many struggle to understand its purpose. Firstly, detoxification is the process of removing toxic substances, bacteria and chemicals from the body. People choose to detox for various reasons whether it’s to ween off drugs, lose weight, increase their energy, or reduce inflammation. There are many ways people can detox themselves such as juice cleanses or dietary changes.
At LifeWorks Wellness Center, our approach for detoxification may differ compared to the common concept of it. While juice cleanses and dietary changes are a great first step, we recommend specific treatments such as Ozone and Intravenous Therapies to not only remove toxins, but to replenish the body with proteins and nutrients. For those who suffer with joint pain, bacterial disease (such as Lyme), autoimmune disease, and other chronic conditions, we highly recommend a detoxification program to eliminate inflammation and reduce symptoms for these reasons:
- Removes Environmental Toxins
One of the major reasons why detoxification is beneficial is that it is capable of safely removing built-up environmental toxins. A big misconception about detoxification is that it is a treatment for individuals who are addicted to alcohol or illegal drugs. While these are considered “foreign bodies” in the system, they’re not the only poisons that people ingest. As a matter of fact, environmental toxins pose just as much a threat to society as illegal substances do. Unfortunately, it’s just not as mainstream.
Environmental toxins consist of heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria, and other chemicals that we subconsciously inhale every single day. While many may not realize it, these daily substances are accumulating in our body, creating inflammation and spreading it. This later forms into chronic diseases in the heart, brain, G.I. tract, reproductive system, and immune system. LifeWorks detox treatments will clean the bloodstream and filter out all toxins. Meanwhile, intravenous therapies will provide the body with a good source of nutrients and an additional diet plan will assist in losing weight and keeping the toxins out.
- Boosts the Immune System
Detoxification resets the body and strengthens its immune system in order to protect it from future harmful microbes disrupting it. Many detox treatments at LifeWorks use a compound called ozone which assists in releasing antioxidants to fight off bacteria and reduce inflamed areas. This significantly helps with pain relief as well as the healing of damaged tissues caused by flare-ups. Additionally, the use of supplements and a new diet will help decrease the amount of toxins coming in and facilitate the break down process of nutrients within the gut. Over time, this will help the body spend less time on processing foods that are difficult to digest and put that energy towards other areas such as immunity.
- Improves Energy Levels
As the detoxification process continues through its course, patients often report gradually feeling more energized to do activities that they previously enjoyed before they became sick. Those who suffer from chronic inflammation or other serious conditions often experience fatigue. However, once the patient provides their body with substantial nutrients and cleanses themselves of negative particles and toxins, they’ll notice a natural energy boost throughout the day and better quality sleep throughout the night.
- Improves Memory
While the toxins in our body can influence many organs, the one organ that might be affected the most is the brain. Inflammation that develops in the brain is called neuroinflammation, and this condition can induce Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, brain fog, aging, oxidative injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and traumatic brain injury. All of these disorders can affect neurotransmitters and disrupt the ability to think coherently and remember information. After going through a thorough detoxification plan provided by a LifeWorks practitioner, many patients suffering from long-term Lyme Disease reported a decrease in their brain fog and felt an improvement in their ability to think, focus and remember.
- Aids With Weight Loss
Although the treatments alone are meant to extract the toxins from our body, the supplementation and dietary changes can greatly benefit someone’s ability to lose weight. This is especially a bonus for those who struggle with cardiovascular conditions and obesity, as a natural wholesome diet will remove the unhealthy fats, sugars, and toxic waste and replace it with nutrients. At LifeWorks, we typically recommend the Paleo Diet for a detoxification plan but will occasionally suggest the Ketogenic Diet for those who struggle with weight loss, cardiovascular disease or cancer.
The purpose of Paleo is to consume food items that our hunter-gatherer ancestors would’ve eaten during the Paleolithic era. This involves only consuming foods that are all-natural, free-range and grass-fed. Foods that are packaged or contain added chemicals and preservatives are excluded from it. On the other hand, the Ketogenic Diet eliminates carbs and replaces it with healthy fats for the body to use as energy.
Detoxification at LifeWorks Wellness Center
At LifeWorks Wellness Center, we offer a plethora of detoxification treatments for patients experiencing inflammation, environmental toxicity, and other chronic diseases. Some of these treatments include:
- Major Autohemotherapy (MAH)
- Ultra Violet Blood Irradiation (UVBI)
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
- Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation (EBOO)
- Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Technology (HOCATT)
Prior to receiving a detoxification plan, patients are required to consult with a physician to discuss their medical background, medications, allergies, or other current conditions. The patient will be subject to a full evaluation and testing process to determine the amount of toxicity in their system. This will help the practitioner accurately create a detoxification program that will work well for them.
