Well Women Care

Wellwoman

Are you one of the many thousands of women for whom a well woman exam is only an annual Pap smear and a manual breast exam? Then read on…

The biggest killers of women are:

  1. Cardiovascular disease ASVD (heart attack and stroke) and hypertension.
  2. Cancer.
  3. Lung disease, obesity, diabetes and bone fractures.

A thorough Well Woman Exam should be able to reveal the pre-cursors to all of these. It should be an opportunity to ask any questions about issues which may be causing you concern, from fertility to cancer signs to inherited disorders. It should provide you with an annual report on your overall state of health, and not just give the “ok” to your breasts and reproductive organs. Identifying minor issues which may have the potential to develop into a serious illness is what a Well Woman Exam should do.

At LifeWorks, a Well Woman exam consists of a pap smear which is designed to detect premalignant and malignant cells in your cervix. Also included is a pelvic exam which checks the female organs and a manual breast exam which checks for lumps or abnormalities. We also include a Hemoccult test which looks for blood in the rectum and a body composition analysis which records percentages of: fat, muscle, bone, water, visceral fat, metabolic rate and physique rating.

JENNIFER BAER, A.R.N.P. PATIENT TESTIMONIAL

I came to Jennifer Baer in May not only for a checkup but also to see if she could take care of a burping problem that I was having. For the last 16 or 17 months prior to my appointment with Jennifer, I had been constantly burping. That’s right – burping all of the time except when I was sleeping or eating. I had been to see my PCP numerous times and had blood work done, adhered to the fodmap diet for 8 weeks, eliminated all supplements and medications, etc. Nothing worked. The burping continued. As of one week before seeing Jennifer, my PCP’s latest thought was that my problem was stress. He was in the process of setting up an appointment for me with a mental health professional! During my session with Jennifer, she muscle tested me and found that I responded positively to a bacterium. She gave me a supplement and after taking it for 8 days, the burping stopped completely. If I had not seen Jennifer, I would be sitting in front of a mental health professional still burping! Thank you, Jennifer, for relieving me of this awful problem.

Migraines and Headaches

Most headaches can be resolved as soon as the cause has been correctly pinpointed. Up to one quarter of the population has a migraine headache at some time in their life and about 10 percent have them regularly. The classic migraine begins with a warming “aura” – flashing lights in one eye, blurring, blind sports, distortion of vision, and tingling of the arms or face. After about 30-60 minutes the headache begins, usually on one side but sometimes all over. It is a pounding, excruciating pain which usually lasts for four to six hours.

Attacks may be triggered by a number of things, including:

Migraine and headaches 233x159

  • food
  • alcohol in general and red wine in particular
  • chocolate and caffeine
  • fasting
  • stress
  • strong emotional reactions
  • fatigue
  • changes in the weather
  • altitude
  • hormonal changes

There are two other types of headache:

  1. Cluster headaches
People can get these headaches daily or several times a week. They last for about an hour and the pain is almost exclusively on one side of the head, often around or behind the eye.
  2. Tension headaches
Nearly everyone gets tension headaches. They are sometimes caused by involuntary tensing of the face and neck muscles over a long period, usually after concentrating hard or because of stress. The pain is a steady ache, which can last for hours or days, around the back of the head and neck, in the forehead, and around the eyes.

At LifeWorks we find the cause of your migraine headaches and set you free of them. For more information call LifeWorks at 727 466 6789.

About Dr. David Minkoff, Medical Director

Dr. David Minkoff graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1974 and was elected to the “Phi Beta Kappa” of medical schools, the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Fraternity for very high academic achievement. He then completed both a Pediatric Residency and a Fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of California at San Diego. He worked at the University of California and Children’s Hospitals in San Diego as an attending physician in infectious disease while conducting original research on Ribaviron, a broad spectrum anti-viral agent to fight disease. He also co-directed a neo-natal intensive care unit and worked in emergency medicine. In 1992, Dr. Minkoff’s wife Sue, a Registered Nurse, became interested in nutrition and health and began to go to lectures from some of the experts in the field. At the time, Dr. Minkoff was pretty fixed in his view of traditional medicine and it took a lot of convincing to get him to come to one of these lectures. After hearing Dr. Jeffrey Bland speak, Dr. Minkoff had a eureka moment and began pursuing the alternative field with a vengeance. Based on this new knowledge Dr. Minkoff and his wife set up a small clinic in 1997 to help some friends with their medical problems. What began as an experiment blossomed into Lifeworks Wellness Center, one of the most successful clinics for complementary medicine in the United States. In the process, he gained expertise in Biological medicine, integrative oncology, heavy metal detoxification, anti-aging medicine, hormone replacement therapy, functional medicine, energy medicine, neural and prolotherapy, homeopathy, and optimum nutrition. He studied under the masters in each of these disciplines until he became an expert in his own right. Dr. Minkoff is one of the most in-demand speakers in the field and wrote an Amazon best-selling book called The Search For The Perfect Protein. The demand for the products and protocols he discovered became a catalyst for founding BodyHealth.Com, a nutrition company that now manufactures and distributes cutting-edge nutritional solutions for the many health problems of today. Dr. Minkoff writes two free online newsletters, “The Optimum Health Report” and ”The BodyHealth Fitness Newsletter”, to help others learn about optimum health and fitness. Dr. Minkoff is an avid athlete himself and has completed 43 Ironman Triathlons. To keep his fitness maximal, he lives the lifestyle he teaches to others and tries to set an example for others, so they can enjoy a life free of pain and full of energy.
