Though she faced setbacks, Malia’s persistence with daily protocols and lifestyle changes has kept her moving forward.

Today, she shares her story as living proof that healing is possible and encourages others to never give up hope.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Malia Crump. I came here four years ago to see Dr. Minkoff, and I am a walking blessing—I’ll put it that way.

Early Struggles with Lyme Disease

At 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. It wasn’t just Lyme—I also had meningitis, which severely attacked my brain and spine. My body was covered in bullseye rashes. Within hours of going to the hospital, I was sent to a children’s hospital, where I spent about three weeks. I was discharged with a PICC line and a month’s worth of antibiotics.

When I returned, doctors told me I was fine and removed the PICC line, even suggesting to my mom that we see a psychiatrist because they believed nothing was wrong. But within three months, my body began deteriorating. I was confined to a wheelchair from that point on.

Finding Support from Dr. Charles Jones

We found Dr. Charles Jones in Connecticut, who cared for me for five years. He was 86 when I met him and treated me with long-term antibiotics until his passing at 93. Though the antibiotics damaged my gut and body, he saved my life once. Afterward, my health continued to decline. I lost 50 pounds in less than a month, dropping from 155 lbs to 105 lbs. My family was alarmed at how anorexic and frail I looked.

Discovering Dr. Minkoff

My sister found Dr. Minkoff online by chance. She called immediately to see if they would take a 15-year-old patient, and they said yes. We scheduled an appointment and came in just before Christmas. After planning everything, I had a PICC line placed and began treatment at LifeWorks in January. My mom and I stayed for five months, five days a week, going through the program.

Early Treatment Challenges

At first, it didn’t feel like it was working. The protocols were difficult and draining. Weekends weren’t restful—they were filled with detoxing and feeling worse. But I began to understand the process and learned how to work with my body to get through it.

Turning Point

After about three months, things began to change. I went from being stuck in a wheelchair and withdrawn, to walking with a walker, talking, and even helping others going through the same struggles. By the end of the five months, I was sent home with no PICC line and no Lyme in my system.

Setbacks and Recovery

A few months later, in August, I relapsed. We retested, restarted treatment, and I committed to daily protocols. I take medicine four times a day—morning, noon, evening, and night—along with additional supportive therapies. One of the most helpful has been coffee enemas, which have greatly supported my detox and healing.

I realized that you cannot stop. You must keep going, follow the protocols, and trust the process. Without Dr. Minkoff’s program, I probably wouldn’t be here today.

Message of Hope

To anyone coming here: don’t give up. Don’t let the pain or the disease take over your body, your personality, or your life. Keep being you, and keep looking forward to the next smile and the next day—because it is possible.

I am living proof that there is hope and healing. Never give up.
