Human Babesiosis: Symptoms & Treatment

What is Babesiosis?
Babesiosis is a tick-borne illness spreading rapidly across the US, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The first case of human Babesiosis was reported in the United States in 1969 on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
The CDC has reported a significant increase in reported cases in the past decade.
Understanding the causes and symptoms of Babesiosis is critical because most conventional doctors often misdiagnose this infection.
The States with the Greatest Increase of Babesiosis
According to a CDC report the incidence of Babesiosis increased significantly in these states:
- Vermont had the largest increase (+1,602%, from 2 to 34 cases)
- Maine (+1,422%, from nine to 138)
- New Hampshire (+372%, from 13 to 78)
- Connecticut (338%, from 74 to 328)
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- New York

Babesiosis Causes and Prevention
The primary cause of Babesiosis is the bite of a black-legged tick infected with the Babesia parasite.
To prevent tick bites, using tick repellent, doing regular tick checks after spending time outdoors, and avoiding wooded areas or areas with high grass are essential.
People can also contract Babesiosis through blood transfusion or organ transplantation from an infected person.
Babesiosis Symptoms
The symptoms of Babesiosis can range from mild to severe and can even cause death.
Common symptoms include
- Fever
- Chills
- Headache
- Brain fog
- Body aches
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Hemolytic anemia
- Dizziness
- Heart palpitations
- Pale skin
- Headaches
- Confusion
These symptoms can appear within a week or take months to manifest.
Natural Treatment for Babesiosis
The most common treatment for recent babesiosis infection is a course of antibiotics using atovaquone and azithromycin.
However, antibiotics for past infections do not work. We have had many patients on antibiotics for years, which caused devastating systemic effects and did not resolve their Babesiosis.
For this reason, anyone with a chronic infection of Babesiosis, will need a more comprehensive approach and treatment plan to eliminate this stubborn infection.
