Ozone Therapy

The Benefits of Ozone as a Detoxification Method

Ozone a distinctive sharp odor reminiscent of chlorine, and can sometimes be smelled after a thunderstorm, when lightning zaps oxygen molecules apart.

Those who can recall their Earth Science classes in high school or college may remember learning about something called “The Ozone Layer.” National Geographic explained this as a “thin part of the Earth’s atmosphere that absorbs all of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet light”¹. It is located approximately 7.5 and 31 miles above Earth’s surface and within the stratosphere. Humans and living organisms occupy the troposphere where oxygen is present for survival and where weather and air temperature fluctuates. The Ozone Layer contains blue gas composed of three oxygen atoms rather than two. NASA describes the gas as “a distinctive sharp odor reminiscent of chlorine, and can sometimes be smelled after a thunderstorm, when lightning zaps oxygen molecules apart”².

What many are unaware of is that Ozone contains multiple health benefits and is commonly used as a medical therapy to treat different conditions. The gas has been used for over 100 years to disinfect medical supplies and as an ingredient in some conventional medicines. At LifeWorks Wellness Center, Ozone Therapy is a popular treatment and provides our patients with numerous benefits. On many occasions, patients who suffer from environmental toxicity, heavy metals, bacterial infections and inflammation will find Ozone useful as a method of detoxification. Below are some of the many health benefits that Ozone offers for detox purposes.

Immune System Booster

Research has shown that Ozone is beneficial for those with immune and autoimmune disorders. It can effectively reduce inflammation throughout the body and release powerful antioxidants to decrease any or all oxidative damage. The National Library of Medicine (NLM) revealed a study claiming that ozone decreased cytotoxicity of doxorubicin in the skin and demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects within cells³. Furthermore, the use of Ozone Therapy has shown to manage multiple conditions caused by inflammation such as asthma, joint pain, and Crohn’s Disease.

Toxin Elimination

Many patients with inflammation often have a large buildup of toxins in their body. Toxic overload is usually caused by overexposure to heavy metals, pesticides, and chemicals that are usually found in daily products or the environment. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to avoid these types of exposures, but thankfully, Ozone can assist in cleansing the body, combat the toxins, and increase the body’s healing ability. Additionally, it helps red blood cells transfer oxygen, improve cell function, and increase circulation to eliminate toxins. One of the successful treatments at LifeWorks is called Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation (EBOO). The treatment acts as a dialysis machine that filters a patient’s blood, extracts all particles, toxins and fungi and kills all unwanted pathogens with Ozone.

Offers Antibacterial Properties

While conventional doctors often recommend antibiotics to patients to kill off malevolent microbes, Ozone Therapy is used as an alternative in holistic facilities. After long-term use of antibiotics, bacteria will eventually grow resistant to it and continue to spread in the body. Ozone contains anti-bacterial properties to kill off unhealthy pathogens while stabilizing the healthy bacteria that the body needs for a balanced immune system. Patients who suffer from chronic bacterial infections such as Lyme disease will benefit from Ozone therapies as the gas has proven to resolve many acute bacterial infections and offer future protection to the immune system.

Provides Healing & Mobility to Joints

Patients with chronic joint pain may have tried physical therapy which never made any improvements to their pain or mobility. Whether the pain stems from a previous injury, a deep-rooted infection within the muscles or a form of arthritis, this is a sign of inflammation that is localized within tissues, joints and muscles. Ozone can not only help decrease the pain, but eliminate the inflamed areas and improve the movements of the affected joints. One Ozone Therapy that provides healing is Prolozone which injects a natural solution called a proliferant followed by ozone gas into the ligament or joint. Forty-eight hours following the Prolozone treatment, symptoms should stabilize and pain should be reduced between 20-80% depending on how much was administered to the patient.

Ozone has been successful at treating various conditions such as cancer, autoimmune disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease among many others.

At LifeWorks Wellness Center, our detoxification methods vary based on the patient’s condition. However, most patients are recommended an Ozone treatment(s) in order to treat their condition(s). Some Ozone treatments offered include:
