Environmental Toxins

The Conditions Caused by Environmental Toxins

Aisle of cosmetics from a store. Environmental toxins can be found in your cosmetics.

Observe the things around you… what do you see? Are you inside a grocery store? On a farm? In a parking lot? Or the comfort of your own home? Whether you know it or not, regardless of your location, there is a high possibility that there are environmental toxins in close proximity.

But how can that be? You’re not near a factory or a gas station, so how can you be surrounded by environmental toxins? The truth is environmental toxins are everywhere. They’re in our cleaning supplies, plastic tupperware, food, hygiene products, cosmetic products, toiletries, the air that we breathe and even our own drinking water! So why is this important? What are environmental toxins and why are they hazardous to our health?

Environmental toxins are chemicals within products, foods, and other resources that seep into our bodies and disrupt the biological system. The purpose of this information isn’t to scare anyone from going to the store, or living a typical life, but to make sure that others are aware of them and to be cautious of the resources that they choose to use. By being proactive and taking on natural healthy measures, people may be able to avoid multiple illnesses that they didn’t realize are caused by the chemicals within our environment. Conditions that are caused by environmental toxins are as follows:

Environmental Toxins and Cancer

The National Cancer Institute explains that cancer is caused by “certain genes that alter the way our cells function”¹. When our genes are replicated and mutated, this can accelerate cell division rates which ultimately spreads malignant cells within the body. When we’re repeatedly exposed to environmental toxins, they are capable of disrupting normal cell functions and damaging the DNA by breaking the strands within the cells and inducing uncontrolled mutations. DNA substances such as tobacco-smoke, arsenic, formaldehyde, soot, coal-tar, or even sunrays put people at a high risk of cancer development. According to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, food and drink that contain processed chemicals such as sodas, instant noodle soups (like Ramen), packaged snacks, and frozen meals all ingest toxins into the digestive system². It’s best to be proactive with your health and read product labels, ingredients, and packaging information, as these should contain a list of chemicals that were used to create the product or food.

Toxins and Neurological Disorders

There have been many links between environmental toxins and Autism, mental retardation, and Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Annual Review of Public Health, “the impact of toxins on the developing brain was first recognized in the aftermath of environmental disasters”³. In the 1950s, women who ingested fish contaminated with mercury eventually gave birth to children with mental delays and severe motor dysfunctions³. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also averages a 17% increase in children with learning disabilities from 2009-20174. Meanwhile, Dr. Viatcheslav Wlassoff concluded that there is a long-term accumulative link between lead exposure and memory failure, eventually leading to Alzheimer’s5. So what does this all mean?

Many scientists can’t help but notice the connection between the increase in environmental toxins over the past century and the rise in children diagnosed with learning disabilities such as ADHD, speech impediments, and Autism, along with adults diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. There is a much larger prevalence in brain development issues in both children and adults alike as compared to our ancestors of the twentieth century, and there is no question that changes within the environment play a role in the matter.

Chronic Illnesses

This might seem slightly broad, however environmental toxins can lead to a wide range of problems such as Autoimmune Disease, Chronic Fatigue, Depression, Fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal issues and cardiovascular conditions. When toxins enter the body via skin penetration, the lungs or the stomach, they build a series of paths into the cell’s nucleus and mitochondria (otherwise known as the cell’s powerhouse). A strong immune system can help defend the body from chronic diseases developing, however a weak immune system will continue the progression. Sadly, most patients don’t realize when this is occurring in their body and allopathic medicine normally won’t bring this topic to the forefront until it appears in a patient’s blood test results.

You Can Still Live Your Life

Regardless of where we are or what we do, it seems that no one is exempt from avoiding the toxins in our surroundings, although this shouldn’t halt anyone from going about their daily activities. The best way to ensure that our bodies are safe from these invisible entities is by consuming the right meals that containminerals, protein and take our daily supplements.
