Stress, Sleep & Your Health – OHR #414

How insomnia & stress can affect your health.

In my reading I ran across this from Mark Twain…

“Don’t part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.”

Illusion: Definition from Webster;

  1. a thing that is or is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted by the senses,
  2. a deceptive appearance or impression,
  3. a false idea or belief.

Mr. Webster, ever the pessimist in these definitions. He missed one…

Another definition of an illusion is a self created perception. It’s your determination of the future of what you will do or be or have. You create a dream-illusion of a desirable future and you proceed by your actions to make it come true. You can see that illusion is a two-edged sword. Both sides cut and both sides are true.

Many think that the future is totally uncontrollable or unpredictable, or that we have no say in it. But that is an illusion – a false idea or belief. For example: A well prepared student will get good grades. A loyal and productive worker will be valued by his employer. A person who betrays his friends or cheats on his wife will suffer a tormented life. One could look from above and see that all of these are likely.

Deciding to be healthy and living according to good health habits can be a good predictor of how your health will be. That’s organic food, exercise, supplements, sunshine and attention to sleep and stressors. Thinking that you will be healthy with fast food, too much alcohol and 25 pounds overweight is a total illusion of the false kind.

Illusions are valuable when you decide to cause the future by using the laws of biology and good morals as your basis.  Illusions will get you in the soup if you dream you can have things that disregard the laws of nature and common sense.  There is no such thing in life as a free lunch. But those who make themselves a lunch now will be able to eat it later!  If you keep creating illusions and dreams your life will be rich with activity and excitement and you will cause your own future.  Never part with them for they are the substance of life itself.

Have a great week.

“For LifeWorks Wellness Center… you’re the bomb.

I think we are all works in progress. Dr. Minkoff, I am sure, would agree!

I was diagnosed in 1983 with Lyme and have had the experience of treating the symptoms with “band aids” whether it was antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, drawers full of supplements and homeopathic remedies. Then I had a horse with a career ending injury. I began ozone (my own concoctions…) on him and me.

Dr. Minkoff put me straight and over the years through his insights he has had the daunting task of fine tuning my health regimen! He found secondary and tertiary problems with the Lyme that had been left untreated. I was sick. After caring for a very sick husband for several years, Dr. Minkoff revisited what I needed to do. I cannot say enough about his PerfectAmino’s… don’t think, just take them! I lost 30 pounds and easily put on enough muscle to be asked to model my new body… no I didn’t.

The point is that I have been given a new opportunity to feel well and accomplish new interests in a dynamic and healthy way, lucky. Carlabeth and I talk about this trajectory I am on. Where would I be without her!

So, if you are reading this, I wish you encouragement and am so pleased for you that you have found yourself in Dr. Minkoff’s inspired and capable hands. Be well!” – L.C.

About Dr. David Minkoff, Medical Director

Dr. David Minkoff graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1974 and was elected to the “Phi Beta Kappa” of medical schools, the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Fraternity for very high academic achievement. He then completed both a Pediatric Residency and a Fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of California at San Diego. He worked at the University of California and Children’s Hospitals in San Diego as an attending physician in infectious disease while conducting original research on Ribaviron, a broad spectrum anti-viral agent to fight disease. He also co-directed a neo-natal intensive care unit and worked in emergency medicine. In 1992, Dr. Minkoff’s wife Sue, a Registered Nurse, became interested in nutrition and health and began to go to lectures from some of the experts in the field. At the time, Dr. Minkoff was pretty fixed in his view of traditional medicine and it took a lot of convincing to get him to come to one of these lectures. After hearing Dr. Jeffrey Bland speak, Dr. Minkoff had a eureka moment and began pursuing the alternative field with a vengeance. Based on this new knowledge Dr. Minkoff and his wife set up a small clinic in 1997 to help some friends with their medical problems. What began as an experiment blossomed into Lifeworks Wellness Center, one of the most successful clinics for complementary medicine in the United States. In the process, he gained expertise in Biological medicine, integrative oncology, heavy metal detoxification, anti-aging medicine, hormone replacement therapy, functional medicine, energy medicine, neural and prolotherapy, homeopathy, and optimum nutrition. He studied under the masters in each of these disciplines until he became an expert in his own right. Dr. Minkoff is one of the most in-demand speakers in the field and wrote an Amazon best-selling book called The Search For The Perfect Protein. The demand for the products and protocols he discovered became a catalyst for founding BodyHealth.Com, a nutrition company that now manufactures and distributes cutting-edge nutritional solutions for the many health problems of today. Dr. Minkoff writes two free online newsletters, “The Optimum Health Report” and ”The BodyHealth Fitness Newsletter”, to help others learn about optimum health and fitness. Dr. Minkoff is an avid athlete himself and has completed 43 Ironman Triathlons. To keep his fitness maximal, he lives the lifestyle he teaches to others and tries to set an example for others, so they can enjoy a life free of pain and full of energy.
